Welcome to the world of A Good Squeeze! A podcast hosted by myself and my husband, where we delve into the thrilling universe of James Bond to squeeze a little 007 into our everyday lives. My husband and I watch the films while immersed in the tailored menu of food and drinks concocted by my cohost, both eager to analyze the franchise’s powerful impact on pop culture and, most importantly, ourselves.
We approach our myriad of ideas in conversation, with our observations falling into a pattern through no fault of our own: August’s deep nostalgia and reverence for the Bond legacy, and my novice excitement at discovering new layers of storytelling and social commentary. This has authentically prompted the labels of “Nostalgic” and “Novice”, together finding a unique way to appreciate the timeless appeal of this cinematic icon.
The premise
Our backstory is simple. For my husband, the Nostalgic, the films represent his childhood. Most milestones in his life have been marked with a Bond affiliation, and the transitions he experienced in adulthood were often supported by the franchise as a source of comfort and, most importantly, coziness.
For myself, the Novice, the investment in James Bond stems from an analytical perspective. Having no prior emotional tie to the stories or characters, I subject the franchise and our audience to my scrutiny on the cinematic tropes, social commentary, and parallels to pop culture.
The contrasting incentives for our James Bond dialogue creates a balance for both newcomers and lifelong fans of 007.

EPISODE BANNERS

not just a podcast
As Novice and Nostalgic, we explore the James Bond lifestyle through the lens of a couple with limited resources. Translating an existing brand that prioritizes luxury within its underlying themes of espionage and travelogue into a new brand rendering these amenities obtainable to the average man is no feat of luck. The approach taken to create this brand identity for a podcast we had not recorded yet emphasized timelessness and flexibility; how can our assets remain constant alongside our evolution?
“The Novice and the Nostalgic” was the obvious ticket here. The common thread for both these titles is the idea of origin, one developed while the other is still refining, and what better place to start than the beginning? This brings us to Dr.No (1962), the very first Bond film on the silver screen. The iconic nature of the opening credits, with the geometric alignment of the dots, acts as a recognizable feature rooted in 007 history. Let’s apply it to our logo.
A rip off will get you nowhere, an homage will slow you down, but a reinterpretation will drop you off right at the front step. What is the draw for these little dots? Dynamic, elegant, organized, a focal point that mixes action with luxury. Add a little art deco typeface and we’ve arrived. The stacked type gives motion to the image, while the white dots provide structure, keeping them relevant within the design. Vintage and noticeably Bond, this will catch the eye of any listener scrolling through their preferred platform.
